David Hare (Assistant Manager) - Small Business Owner - 1997

David Hare joined the St. Johnsbury Band in 1995 and is currently the band Assistant Manager.

David learned snare drumming under George McLure in the 1960's and returned to concert percussion about 12 years ago, taking lessons from Phil Brown. In addition to the St. Johnsbury Band, he plays snare drum and miscellaneous percussion for the Danville Town Band and "sits in" occasionally with the Lyndonville Military Band, and the McLure's Alumni Band. He has also provided percussion accompaniment to the Pumpkin Hill Singers' concerts for the past two years.

David studied Latin Percussion at the KOSA Percussion Workshop and rudimental drumming at the Eastern Field Music School with author George Carroll, the Don Hubbard Field Music School at Ft. Delaware, DE and the National Regiment Field Music School in Gettysburg, PA. He is Principal Musician with the Vermont Civil War Hemlocks playing traditional rudimental drumming and is a snare drummer with The 6th New Hampshire and the Twin State Fife and Drum Corps. David volunteers at Danville School offering drum lessons to 4-12 graders since 1994. He is a member of many civic organizations and has received the Manning Helping Hand Award. He enjoys general concert music, marches, show tunes, fife and drum and mid-19th century folk music.

In addition to the snare drum, David plays congas, timbales, bongos, and many percussion accessories affectionately known as "the toys". His favorite marches are National Emblem by Vermont composer E.E. Bagley and The Washington Grays and Melody Shop, both by Karl King.

"I am eternally grateful to the many drummers I have met and worked with who have been so free in sharing their talents and love of drumming, especially Don Allen. I am left in awe of their abilities and their art of embellishing and keeping time."
