Dr. John H. Mead is Emeritus Professor of Music at Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia.
He holds degrees from Ithaca (NY) College, the University of Vermont, and the University of Kentucky.
He is now retired and lives in Monroe, NH.
John is Emeritus Principal Trombone of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, and was a member of the
WV Symphony Brass Quintet and the Huntington (WV) Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with orchestras
and ensembles in Guam, Saipan, the Phillipines, numerous states, Washington, D.C., and in Europe.
John has taught at the university level at Marshall, UVM, Georgetown (KY) College, and the University
of Kentucky. He has adjudicated All-State low brass auditions in Kentucky and West Virginia, and
was an instrumental music teacher in New York state schools.
Here in the Northeast, John plays in local town bands, the St. Johnsbury Big Swing Band, The Maple
Leaf Seven Dixieland Band, the Hanover Chamber Orchestra, the Vermont Philharmonic, and several brass quintets. He
is active in Monroe's town and educational issues.
