The St. Johnsbury Band will perform as part of this years Farmers' Night Concert Series. The
Band will play on Wednesday evening, April 5th at 7:30pm. The concert will be in the rotunda
of the Statehouse in Montpelier, VT.
The Farmers' Night concert series is hosted by the Vermont Legislature. These free concerts are
cultural and entertainment programs held every Wednesday night throughout the winter and early
spring excluding Town Meeting week and any possible weather-related cancellations. Farmer's Night
is a tradition dating back almost to the Civil War.
Farmers' Night originated as a meeting of farmer-legislators with the interest of securing better
legislation for farmer's interests in Vermont. Over time, the meetings evolved into a performance
series for lawmakers staying in Montpelier all week during the winter and early spring legislative
sessions and the public. Though many now commute, the Farmers' Night tradition continues, and the
event is open to all until the House Chamber is full.

column in the Winter 2005-2006 edition of Vermont Life magazine.
