Festival of Bands Concert

The St. Johnsbury Band takes part in the annual Festival of Bands Concert. The concert features the St. Johnsbury School bands, the St. Johnsbury Academy Band, and the St. Johnsbury Band. Each band plays several pieces one piece at a time starting with the St. Johnsbury School bands, followed by the Academy Band and then the St. Johnsbury Band. This concert is a crowd favorite as they get to see and hear musicians of all ages.

Memorial Day Ceremonies

The St. Johnsbury Band takes part in the annual Memorial Day ceremonies on a beautiful morning. The Band starts off with a short, patriotic concert in front of the Caledonia County Courthouse, stopping when the parade of armed forces members reaches the Courthouse. There are speeches, laying of wreaths on monuments in the park, and Taps is played.

Summer Concerts

Mother Nature wreaked a lot of havoc on the Band's summer schedule this year. Our concerts went well through June with one rain out. July was another story as three concerts were rained out, one was shortened by a storm and we skipped a parade because of the threat of bad weather. Nonetheless, the Band was able to get in some concerts and here are pictures from these events.

We discovered an overture from the early 1900s in our music library titled "The Enchantress".  This music has the stamp "USS VERMONT” on it. The USS Vermont was part of the Great White Fleet. This piece was likely played  by the ships band for dignitaries and guests during her ports of calls.

We also played the “Admiral Dewey March” (provided to us on request from the U.S. Marine Corps Band). Both pieces were performed under the direction of Guest Conductor Governor Jim Douglas at our Veterans Day concert. Governor Douglas also conducted the opening concert of our 2012 summer concert season.
